If you're looking for the best way to celebrate Independence Day, Livingston County has an incredible lineup of events for the entire family. From hometown parades and patriotic celebrations to spectacular fireworks displays and charming downtowns, there's no shortage of ways to enjoy the holiday close to home. Whether you're spending the weekend on the lake, exploring local businesses, or gathering with family to watch fireworks, here's your guide to celebrating the Fourth of July throughout Livingston County.

One of the most anticipated events this year is the Livingston County 250th Celebration of American Independence in Howell. Taking place on Saturday, July 4, this special event commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence with an unforgettable fireworks display and synchronized light show. The celebration will be held at Howell High School, located at 1200 W. Grand River Avenue. Parking opens at 7:30 p.m., giving families plenty of time to find a spot before the fireworks and light show begin at 10:00 p.m. It's expected to be one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in the area and is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together for an evening of patriotic pride.

If you're arriving early, make a day of it in Howell. Downtown Howell offers a variety of locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and ice cream parlors that make it easy to spend a relaxing afternoon before heading to the fireworks. Thompson Lake is also just minutes away and provides a beautiful place for an evening walk before the festivities begin.

Earlier in the day, Livingston County residents can kick off the holiday by attending one of two beloved hometown traditions: the Brighton Fourth of July Parade or the Whitmore Lake Fourth of July Parade. Both parades begin at 10:00 a.m. and travel through each community's Main Street, featuring colorful floats, marching bands, local businesses, first responders, and community organizations. These annual parades draw large crowds each year, so arriving early is recommended if you want a great viewing spot.

Brighton is also one of the best places to spend the holiday weekend beyond the parade itself. Downtown Brighton offers shopping, outdoor dining, coffee shops, and the popular Mill Pond area, making it easy to spend an entire day exploring before enjoying your evening with family and friends. The city's vibrant downtown is one of the reasons so many people love calling Brighton home.

As the holiday weekend continues, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Howell Sunday Farmers' Market. Browse fresh produce, baked goods, handmade products, flowers, and locally crafted items while supporting small businesses throughout the community. It's a relaxing way to start your morning before enjoying brunch at one of downtown Howell's many restaurants.

For a quieter ending to the holiday weekend, head over to Brighton Mill Pond. Take a walk along the Mill Pond Trail, relax by the water, or let the kids enjoy the beloved Imagination Station playground. Downtown Brighton's Social District also allows visitors to enjoy a beverage while strolling through downtown, creating the perfect atmosphere for a summer evening.

If you're looking for one more fireworks show before the weekend comes to a close, Fowlerville Community Park hosts another spectacular Independence Day celebration. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, settle in with family and friends, and enjoy one final display lighting up the Livingston County sky.

The Fourth of July is one of the many reasons people love living in Livingston County. The combination of welcoming communities, beautiful downtowns, lakes, parks, local businesses, and family-friendly traditions creates an atmosphere that's difficult to find anywhere else. Whether you're watching fireworks in Howell, cheering during the Brighton Parade, exploring downtown Howell, or enjoying an evening at Brighton Mill Pond, you're experiencing exactly what makes Livingston County such a special place to call home.

From everyone at the Pat Lotz Real Estate Group, we wish you and your family a safe, fun, and memorable Fourth of July. If celebrating these amazing communities has you thinking about making Livingston County your home, we'd love to help you find the perfect place to enjoy many Independence Days to come.
